Studio maintainance

With the change in the year there are a lot of maintenance tasks going on in the studio this January including changing out the kiln elements for new ones. I usually get this done every couple of years to ensure the smooth running of the kilns, it has delayed orders slightly since I’ve mostly only been firing one kiln since the start of January.

Kiln elements are a wire which runs inside the insulation bricks heating up the inside of the pottery kiln. Over time these thick wires eventually oxidise in the air from the resistance of the electrical current passing through them. They become brittle and snap which will prevent the kiln from getting up to temperature efficiently. The kilns I have are Kittec Kilns which both have two elements inside them which have now been replaced so hopefully I’ll get caught up with the current orders list soon.

Also a quick update about post - at the moment I’m unable to post out any international mail. Royal Mail have put a temporary halt on all international parcel post but if your order has already been sent it should currently be in transit to its destination. Most international customers are reporting deliveries after 4-8 weeks so there are substantial delays at this time.

Most internal UK mail has returned to normal delivery schedules after the industrial action from December.
