North Yorkshire Fracking Vote

For a few days last week Northallerton’s County Hall was the focus for a big news story; the vote by local MP’s to allow Fracking in North Yorkshire. Fracking was approved 7 to 4 and the outcome was almost inevitable – it’s very hard to ignore all those jobs and money that the new wells will bring.

It’s a shame because I think it reflects on the broader issues of energy. Our dependancy in the UK on fossil fuels and the stunting of investment for developing existing energy technology and potentially as yet undiscovered forms of generation.

Hambleton Community Awards 2016

Every year Hambleton council hosts a Community Awards ceremony and this year Little Wren Pottery designed and created the awards for the event! Each award was a custom jug with an inscription of the award name going to an individual or group who helps daily with the lives of people in the Hambleton area.

Reclaiming clay

In making pots theres usually very little wastage and once a piece has been turned, taking off the excess clay, there tends to be a lot of shavings. These shavings collect in the wheel tray and are put into the reclaim bucket where they’re mixed with water to create a slurry.

Christmas commissions

Getting a commission is sometimes tricky – some things just aren’t possible in clay but its more trying to meet in the middle. Between what’s technically possible and what the customer wants to receive. At Christmas I get a few secret hush hush projects but now that it’s over I can share them with you!
