As seen in Simply Crochet

Simply Crochet issue 6 appeared on shelves this month and in it you can find Little Wren Pottery featured inside. Being quite a new publication it has a gorgeous layout and lots of beautiful crochet projects. It’s actually really lovely to see such a mix of home decor items and garment patterns in one magazine.

Custom orders from the studio

Sometimes pottery leaves the studio as a custom order – something that’s just a little bit different from the kinds of work I normally make. It offers up a new way of working with unexpected results. While I’m not always able to accommodate every request being flexible can create pieces that I would never have thought of on my own.

I’ve chosen a few favorites to showcase from the pieces I’ve created between January and the end of March. The first is this unusually coloured yarn bowl with a Midnight blue inside and Vanilla cream outside. As seen in Craftseller

Last week Little Wren Pottery was spotted in Craftseller Magazine by Tracy Todhunter! You’ll find a feature in the Q&A pages where I’m talking about my favourite pottery tool. Spring and Summer Events

It still feels like spring and summer are a world away with the still lingering frosts and snow flurries. I’ve been getting a few inquiries asking if I’ll be attending any events over the spring and summer period. While I was planning on being at Woolfest 2013 unfortunately I now won’t be there, sorry if you were planning on seeing me there this year. I had a great time in Cumbria last year getting to meet lots of people face to face even if the weather wasn’t that great!

Glazes

Recently I’ve been getting a lot of questions about custom orders, I always try whenever I can to accommodate those requests. Unfortunately glazes are one of those things that are difficult to reproduce especially from photos.

Glazes themselves are a variety of powders mixed together; the majority of a glaze is glass formed through heating silica or sand at a high temperature in the kiln. Joining this is a variety of fluxes to lower the temperature and to stablise the glaze and finally there is a colourant. Colourants are usually natural compounds powders created from minerals dug from the Earth itself.
