Looking back at a few custom pottery orders

March is a busy month with Mother’s Day and spring in the air, I’ve been working on a variety of custom orders and lots of yarn bowls!

This pair of yarn bowls were a design challenge, the symbol on the front is Beaivi the Sami symbol for the sun. I’ve been to Finland a few times and seen Sami symbols on jewellery, Sami are a nomadic tribal people who live in the arctic circle. In a way the Beaivi symbol is very similar to the Sun and Moon yarn bowl since they’re both celestial symbols.

Working on a more decorative style

Spring always seems a much quieter time in the studio with the busyness of Christmas over and done with. I’ve been spending a little more time experimenting with decorative techniques. Everything in the studio lately has had a re-organise as I’ve been wanting to add some additional workbench space, somehow it seems that there’s never enough!

Handmade for you

Recently I’ve been making a few changes to my packaging, it’s not something I’ve taken a lot of photos of and I think that’s a shame. The way I parcel items is always changing, there’s always of course a practical element in posting pottery. It has to be secure – packed with peanuts and bubble wrap but once you get beyond that it’s the little things.

White dappled milk jug – Item of the month

It feels like theres been a lot going on in the last month with our sale coming to an end, all the bank holidays and being visited by professional photographer Mike Oakes.

Tivoli red now in stock!

If you’ve been keeping an eye on my shop you might have noticed a new glaze in the collection. Its something you guys asked for in my customer survey and I wanted to formally introduce it to you now that I’ve had some time to play with it.

Tivoli red is a beautiful ruby red glaze. It creates real statement pieces just because its so deeply red! I’m in love with this glaze since its so nice to work with.
