Sunderland pottery

A few months back UK Handmade started a competition for community members to write an article to be showcased in their magazine. The only limitation was that it had to be on a craft theme.

I wanted to write an article about pottery and since I knew a little already Sunderland pottery was my chosen topic. Theres surprisingly a lot of information on the internet about the topic already but I wanted to bring it into the limelight by featuring it.

Raspberry Marshmallows

I’d seen a lot of blog posts out there on the internet about making marshmallows, for some reason I never thought you’d be able to make them. I’ve never actually made sweets before.

As part of prep for this I went out and bought myself a candy thermometer, I don’t think I would have been as happy making these if I didn’t have them. I learnt a lot making these and I hope that it’ll help my sweet making ventures in the future.

Hopefully as I get a bit more experienced with using cups my technique will improve a little I did end up spilling some of the ingredients around the kitchen a little. What I was really impressed by was the speed at which I was able to put this cake together. Cups are quicker than scales.

Win a handthrown pottery mug!

If you follow me on Twitter you might know that last week I talked about having a giveaway on my blog. I decided to go with the little red mug as the giveaway prize.

This is actually the first mug I ever threw on the wheel, maybe I shouldn’t give it away but I have plenty other pieces to get sentimental about.

You can see the marks in the clay where I’ve drawn it up, I pulled the handle and attached it to the pot. It has a level piece at the top for you to rest your thumb upon. Also its dishwasher safe so don’t worry about putting it in with your regular dishes.
