When things go wrong

There are plenty posts out there on the internet about the charmed life of crafts and handmade. Very rarely though do they talk about the frustrations of being an artisan, what could be the flip side.

I know its not often openly admitted but making things is hard, it requires co-ordination between our hands and brains. Quite often what you set out to make isn’t achieved and you’ve got to try again.

Latest stockist – The Knit Studio

The Knit Studio is one of Newcastle’s newest knitting shops based in the historic Blackfriars Priory which was originally constructed in the 13th century. If you’ve never been there you can find it sandwiched between ‘The Gate’ complex and Chinatown.

Anne Makepeace runs the shop and it stocks some unique yarns such as Colinette, Adriafil and Regia. You can also find a large selection of British yarns, its great to see beautiful local yarns in some fabulous colourways.

Halloween

I love autumn as you probably know by now but one particular highlight for me is Halloween. Every year I try and get my hands on a pumpkin or two for cooking rather than carving.

I’d noticed that this year there seemed to be a holdup in pumpkins hitting the shops even though there’d apparently been a bumper year due to the unseasonably warm weather at the start of spring.
