Grandma’s Rice Cake recipe

It’s been a while since I did some baking last and even longer since I made a cake like this one. It’s full of things I don’t normally use to make cakes; butter, eggs and white sugar.

I’ve always loved rice cake though, its a really simple cake and it’s a bit basic. You don’t often find it in cookbooks anymore I guess it’s fallen out of favour, modern cakes would probably use ground almonds or other types of nut. If you’ve never had rice cake in the ground rice gives a really dense texture and due to the amount of butter it’s got a really creamy buttery flavour.

Getting your text on pots

There are lots of different ways of getting wording onto a pot be it for you or as a commemorative gift. I’ve been getting a variety of inquiries about the different techniques I use to get words onto pots. I try to choose methods that compliment the kinds of pieces I make, while there are easily more techniques out there these are just the ones I use.

Minimalist Baker’s granola bars

At about 2-3pm I get the afternoon slumps, at that time its usually tea-o’clock and the kettle goes on. I had been buying a lot of granola bars or natural snack bars like the nakd cocoa loco bars but was starting to get a bit tired of them. The Minimalist Baker website has a recipe for a 5 ingredient bar.

A summer date for your diary!

This week I had confirmation through for the booking on our stall at the Northallerton Homegrown Food Festival. We had a great time there last year and this summer’s event is already well underway. So far it’ll be our only event of the year!

I’ll have a little bit more information about it as the day gets closer but this year it’s being held on Sunday June 28th.
