Thoughts from a spinning pottery wheel

As you know I like to mix things up every now and again with the kinds of blog posts that I make. This one is definitely more of a personal nature – I’ll be unveiling some new additions to the shop next week so be sure to check back!

I’ve done quite a few interviews for both blogs and e-zines now and I quite often get asked the question ‘how did you get into pottery?’ After all it’s not a very common hobby for the average 20 something!

Introducing gift cards!

A few months ago I was emailed with a request for a gift card, unfortunately I wasn’t offering them at the time and I thought why not? Pottery can make a great gift especially since its something practical to give, from the mug you have at your desk to plates for the newlyweds but people’s home spaces are so individual.

What you might like may not be what someone else really wants and thats the dilemma of buying gifts!

Ode to my mug

Wendy from Clark Jewellery over on Folksy sent me this lovely poem about the mug she recently bought! Hopefully it’ll inspire you during your morning brew.

Handmade mugs

I yawn in the cold kitchen standing still,
The garden dark bright orchid on the sill,
The water’s magic moment nearly come,
The kettle starts to rattle, hiss, and hum,
I fill my mug with honey milk and tea,
No one else can use this mug but me,
I see the potters hand in every turn,
Mug warms my hands but not so hot to burn,
We share these magic moments in the cold
This mug to me is worth its weight in gold

If you’re feeling the spark of inspiration or have got any photos of pieces you’ve purchased from Little Wren Pottery in your own home I’d love to see them and repost them on the blog. Just get in touch, thanks!

If you’re after a mug of your own check out what I have in stock at the moment over on Etsy or Folksy.

This month you can find my Yarn Bowls featured in Living North magazine! If you haven’t seen Living North before it’s a lifestyle magazine for the North East and Yorkshire promoting interesting places to visit and shop.

Living North magazine

It’s a beautifully laid out publication and you can find me in their ‘In Style’ section, I also wanted to say that the price quoted includes special delivery postage. In the UK I send out all my items special delivery so that they’ll arrive the following day after they’ve been posted.

Pumpkin orange – strictly limited edition

I quite like experimenting with colour, its funny how often alternative colours or shades makes a piece which have been made the same look so different. I particularly love it at fairs when someone comes up to me and says ‘I’ve never seen such vibrant colours on pottery before’.

Some little part of me loves how colour can totally change people’s perception of what handmade pottery can be. With that in mind you may have seen me posting photos over on Twitter or Facebook of a certain orange shade.
