The trouble with blue

Lately I’ve been having a lot of trouble with blue which has caused orders in Smokey Blue to be delayed. If your one of those people currently waiting I’m in the process of working through this list and I’m sorry that it is taking longer.

That’s the problem with glazes as each batch is made up the subtile variations in it can cause a mismatch between what you take out of the kiln and what’s on the test tiles. I always try to maintain the consistency of my glazes whenever possible to ensure the best quality so while orders are taking longer the glaze is back to it’s lovely bright blue shade.

Part of the problem with blues is that they tend to burn up in higher temperature firings and the blue basically disappears revealing more of the grey and brown tones. I recently had the elements replaced in my kilns and this leads them to fire more intensely when glazing and so burning off more colorant.

I’ll admit it’s tough in business when things go wrong and theres only really yourself to put things right, when glaze tests go wrong you just have to persevere to find a solution. Hopefully things will start to get back on track shortly.

If your in any doubt about when your order will arrive just drop me an email and I’ll let you know. Once your order has dispatched you’ll receive a confirmation email to let you know it’s on the way!
