York Chocolate festival

Last weekend I made it out to York to visit the Chocolate festival. I had a great day even though it was maybe still a little chill to be outside. It was nice to see Zouk back from the summer food fair as their Paneer Wraps are so lovely! I also dropped by El Kantina for a salad mainly because I’m on a diet but it also tasted really fresh.

If your noticing I haven’t mentioned any Chocolate yet my Dad did complain that there wasn’t enough to be had but I appreciated the savoury choices! I will say though that if your vegetarian there isn’t an awful lot to choose from though since everything seemed to have some sort of meat in it. Pulled pork still seems to be seriously popular at food fairs with at least four vendors with different variations.

On the sweets side I shared both a millionaires sea salt caramel shortbread from White Rose Bakes, after eating it I could taste why it was such a good seller. Often with salted sweets theres either too much or too little salt but this was just right. I loved the thick caramel and shortbread ratio, I really hate a mean millionaires!

Generally I’m not a big fan of brownies, so often I find them so sweet they set my teeth on edge but I was convinced to share a pistachio brownie from Brown & Blond. I’m glad I did because it was so fudgey and chocolatey the pistachios added a nice crunch to something that would have otherwise been very soft.

Finally to take home we picked up a bar of Choc Affair’s single origin 85% dark chocolate bar. Maybe not quite as smooth as other bars of this percentage but the flavour was great with rich cherry overtones. Also it was nice to see someone selling bars rather than chocolate novelties which I’ve really come to dislike!
